What does White Landscape + Urbanism do?

We are a landscape architecture and urban design studio. We design landscapes and public realms across scales, from a single residential garden to a whole town centre, grounded in landscape architecture, urban design, fine art and ecology.

Where do you work?

We make our home in the Auckland, Waikato and Northland regions and work from our studio in Warkworth. We also have significant experience across the rest of New Zealand and Australia, and partner with local designers where opportunities arise further afield.

What scales of project do you take on?

We operate from residential to regional. That includes private gardens, streets and squares, town-centre masterplans, walking and cycling networks, and transport-edge landscapes such as noise walls and cycleways.

What does 'regenerative design' mean in practice?

It means designing places that give back more than they take: reducing embodied carbon, supporting ecology and water, and creating public spaces that keep working, and improving, over decades rather than degrading.

Do you only design public projects?

No. We design for both private and public life. Residential gardens and outdoor spaces sit alongside civic streets, waterfronts and town centres, and the same care for people and place runs through both.

How does a project usually begin?

It begins with a conversation and close observation of the site: the land, the water, and how people already move through the place. From that reading we shape a brief and a design direction together.

How involved are you once construction starts?

We stay engaged. Our process runs from first conversation to long-term stewardship, working closely with partners through construction and remaining involved to help a place grow and evolve.

How do I discuss a project with you?

Give us a call on +64 22 394 1353, email info@wlu.nz, or drop by the studio at 15A Neville Street, Warkworth. Tell us about your site and what you are hoping to achieve and we will take it from there.
